Somatic Bodywork Therapies - A Powerful Adjunct to your Acupuncture Session

AMMA Therapy®, the John Barnes Approach to Myofascial Release, and Craniosacral Therapy... so much more than a massage

Somatic bodywork is awareness-based work and unites body, mind, and spirit, getting to the root of chronic physical challenges. Maria has over 20 years of experience in AMMA Therapy®, the John Barnes Approach to Myofascial Release, and Craniosacral Therapy and integrates these therapies in her acupuncture sessions to deepen your healing experience.

AMMA Therapy®

AMMA Therapy® is a lineage-based system of healing originating in Korea. One of the branches of AMMA Therapy® is a form of bodywork which incorporates acupressure points. The system also includes dietary recommendations and Qi Gong exercises to help you enhance the quality of and move your energy. AMMA Therapy® promotes the circulation of Qi (your vital life force) in your body. AMMA Therapy® addresses sinus problems, asthma, digestive problems, PMS and menstrual problems, headaches, and neck and back pain. An awareness-based modality, AMMA Therapy® is also beneficial for those who struggle with anxiety and depression. In addition to practicing AMMA Therapy®, I am an approved instructor of this treasured lineage.

John Barnes Approach to Myofascial Release (MFR)

Said to be the therapy that works when other therapies fail, the John Barnes Approach to Myofascial Release (MFR) focuses on the fascia, or the connective tissue, which researchers are beginning to understand as the master system of the body. Until recent years, the neural system was thought to be the master system of the body. However, the discovery of the interstitium a few years ago has begun to change that line of thought. Researchers are understanding that the three dimensional web known as fascia encases all other body systems, including the neural system. And so the state of your fascia determines your neurological functioning.

The fascia provides the body with its soft tissue structure and it also holds tissue memory. The fascia is also where the meridians of acupuncture are found, and so Myofascial Release allows for the free flow of Qi and augments your acupuncture treatment, allowing you to get a quantum effect when we combine both. Not only does the fascia affect structure and mobility as it wraps around your organs, it also restores function to your body.

MFR is also powerful trauma-informed work and beneficial for those struggling from the long term effects of trauma and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). The combination of MFR and acupuncture is also highly effective in the treatment of surgical scars.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST)

A gentle manual technique, which focuses on balancing the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). Subtle with profound effects, craniosacral therapy is deeply calming and also augments the effects of your acupuncture treatment. Appropriate for all, but especially effective for those who suffer from headaches and migraines, TMJ pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, vertigo or dizziness, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or traumatic brain injury (TBI).

*Please note:

All somatic therapies are offered in combination with acupuncture under the Integrative Healing Experience: East Meets West treatment option. These sessions are scheduled after an evaluation and are not available in the online booking options. Intensive options are available and may be required. This will be at the discrescion of the practitioner and reliant upon the evaluation of your case.
