Cupping is a method of treating local disease by creating congestion. Cupping jars made of either glass or plastic create a partial vacuum, drawing up underlying tissues. The goal of cupping is to promote the free flow of Qi and Blood in the channels. It disperses Damp accumulation in the channels and decreases swelling and pain.
Cupping is especially effective for low back pain, shoulder pain, and leg pain, but also may be used to address intestinal compaints as well as respiratory conditions such as bronchitis and asthma. It can also be used to treat menstrual problems, reproductive problems, and to treat obestity and cellulite.
